NEW LOOK: Big Apple Soccer logo, masthead debut

Big Apple has the beginnings of a new look. A new logo and masthead for the web site made their debut on March 24.

The new logo is symbolic of a number of things.
The Statue of Liberty is the area's most iconic figure, standing in the harbor between New York and New Jersey.

The bursts and the lettering represent the lights of Broadway.

The two strokes around the shield represent New York and New Jersey and the colors in the strokes pay homage to the Cosmos and the great soccer legacy of the metropolitan area.

The black and white lettering of the word soccer and the black and white paneled soccer ball pay homage to Soccer Week, the former regional publication covering metropolitan area soccer, which provided the inspiration for the launch of Big Apple Soccer in 2004.

The new masthead incorporates a scene from the grand opening of Red Bull Area, which informs visiting teams that the venue is “Our Home, Your Hell,” as well as the uniforms of the Red Bulls and the WPS Champion Sky Blue FC.

The new shield logo will be incorporated into other elements of the site over the coming weeks.
